Antique Wedgwood Porcelain Chinoiserie Tea Set
Antique Wedgwood Porcelain Chinoiserie Tea Set
A very fine Wedgwood chinoiserie style porcelain tea set for eight persons,
England, circa 1900.
Why we like it
The deep, mottled ‘powder blue’ with typical overpainted designs in gilt, is reminiscent of the Chinese porcelain of the Kangxi reign (1662–1722).
Favoured at the Qing court (1644–1911) on account of their Ming imperial connotations, glazes in deep cobalt blue were also a popular item of export.
The set includes eight tea cups with saucers and a bowl; all in excellent condition with very minor rubbing to gold.
Marked ‘WEDGWOOD ENGLAND’ and ‘MANUFACTURED FOR JAMES POWELL & SONS WHITEFRIARS GLASSWORKS E. C. AND 11 CONDUIT STREET W. LONDON’.
