A very fine vintage Central Persian Kashan carpet, of a medallion design on a red field, with blue ornate borders, decorated with floral motifs overall.
Good condition, minor wear to the pile and minor losses to sides.
Kashan, located in Central Iran, is one of the oldest towns in Persia. Kashan rugs typically follow the Isfahan design, using floral motifs and the Shah Abassi floral design. The colors used in Kashan carpets tend to be deep reds, creams and blues. Typically Kashan rugs are woven with a cotton base and a woollen pile, however there are occasions were a cotton base is used with a woollen pile and silk highlights.
