A charming pair of 'North and South Winds Maidens' oval wall medallions, after the 1889 Paris Art Nouveau Exhibition examples.
France, late 19th century.
Why we love them
These intricately framed bronzed bas-reliefs, mounted on reconstituted marble, represents the North and South Wind Maidens. This pair was likely a high-end "souvenir" of the original, award-winning work created at the same time as the 1889 Exhibition. The original work was a pair of carved marble cameos and garnered the original artist a medal of excellence at the Exhibition.
