A pair of Regency bergère library armchairs, in the style of Gillows of Lancaster and London. With salmon faux suede buttonned squab cushions.
One armchair from circa 1820, the other was made to match perhaps around 1920.
Why we like them
One of the most comfortable models of armchairs created in the 19th century. The caned, wrap-around backrests provide great support for the back, but also lend more presence to these chairs. The finely reeded front legs, the boldly splayed back legs and the flowing and scrolling design of the armrests are the signature features of the Gillow firm.
The Gillows firm produced this comfortable and popular model of 'curricle' bergère in various timbers and with various form of decoration.
