A very fine pair of George II style mahogany side chairs of generous proportion.
Irish or English, c. 1900
The brown close-nailed leather upholstered backs and seats, over acanthus and volute-headed cabriole legs with pierced inscrolled eagles' heads to the knees, terminating in finely detailed claw-and-ball feet, unusually pierced to emphasise the claw grip. Back legs stamped '7670'.
The original George II period chair, featuring the same legs, is in the former Frederick Parker collection (inv. no. FPF112), now at London Metropolitan University.
