A very elegant mid-18th century Chippendale-period armchair, or desk chair of wide proportions and a lovely mellow colour and patina; newly recovered in olive-green Zoffany Ducato velvet. England, circa 1760.
Why we like it
We like the broad proportions of this handsome chair, its smart design with the pierced undulating back, and the richly patinated surface that has beautifully mellowed over the years of loving care and use by many generations of custodians. Quite remarkably for such a delicate design, the back and armrests have survived intact, displaying gorgeous honey colour and natural patination, the only restoration being a very old honest repair to a front leg.
