A very fine Regency period card table, in the taste of John McLean. London, circa 1810.

Why we like it

John McLean's furniture of the early 19th century is super-elegant, with its clean lines and exquisite but understated ornamentation. The firm advertised on its trade label that it specialised in 'Elegant Parisian Furniture', and this table features finely executed brass inlays combined with an overall, typically English restraint. Perfect as a console in a narrow hallway or as a lamp table. We have sold a quite a few pieces by John McLean before, including a similar card table, and are very happy to add this lovely example in our stock.

For a similar pair see Christie's New York, 17 October 2003, Lot 177 ($28,680)
