About This Object
A very decorative pair of early 19th century Regency period bronze and ormolu (gilt bronze) Chinoiserie candlesticks with red glass droplets.
English, circa 1815.
Why we like it
We are avid admirers of all things Chinoiserie, and this particular pair of candlesticks caught our eye at a house sale in London. The exquisite oriental figures, intricately detailed on such a small scale, immediately captivated us. The chiseling on the ormolu candle holders is absolutely superb. The tassels at the corners of the cushions make one’s heart sing. The overall appearance of the candlesticks is playful and enticing, just the way we like it. We are certain that there are others out there who are as passionate as we are about them.
