Pair of superb quality large Carrara marble Tuscan column table lamps.
Italian, 20th century.
Why we like them
This is an absolutely gorgeous pair of classical-style columns of imposing scale, beautifully embellished with exquisite architectural details, according to Renaissance designs.
These columns represent the Tuscan order of architecture (Latin Ordo Tuscanicus or Ordo Tuscanus) – one of the two classical orders developed by the Romans, the other being the composite order. It is influenced by the Greek Doric order, but with un-fluted columns and a simpler entablature with no triglyphs or guttae. The Tuscan order illustrated in Regola delli cinqve ordini d'architettvra (1563), by Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola.
